NEET stands for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, it is a national level entrance exam for medical aspirants to get admission in esteemed medical colleges of India. It is conducted by NTA (National Test Agency) every year for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) and BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) and students seek admission in different courses of different medical institutions on the basis of their marks.
Every year many students aspire to become doctors and appear in the NEET UGC exam but it's not a piece of cake, the cut off marks for government colleges is over the top. This year's exam was supposed to happen on 23rd june 2024 but it got postponed a day before the exam by NTA and amidst the rumor of NEET UG 2024 paper getting leaked and news of exams getting postponed, aspirants are expressing their disappointment and anger and hassling over other alternatives.
However, only those students who attain more than 700 marks get government colleges for MBBS and BDS because of limited seats and cut-throat competition. Medical Counseling Committee issues 15% seats for All India Medical quota and rest 85% is reserved for State Medical seats for college seats. Every year aspirants aim to get into prestigious government colleges for authentic and quality education and medical research. As per the reports of 2023, there are 706 medical colleges in India. Out of which 386 are government colleges and 320 are private colleges. But those who don't get government colleges approach private colleges or opt to go abroad for medical studies. Not many can qualify NEET UGC exams and get admission in either of the colleges to pursue MBBS and BDS. Such aspirants move towards the other medical courses which do not require higher NEET percentile or cut off. There are still some alternatives for aspirants to pursue other undergraduate medical courses and make a career in the medical industry. There are many institutes all over the country that offer courses that are alternatives to NEET. Opportunities don't end for an aspirant seeking a career in the healthcare industry, there is always a way. One can always explore other courses offered by healthcare industries and medical authorities of India. Without qualifying or appearing for NEET, aspirants still can make their profession in the medical industry by applying the alternatives of MBBS and BDS such as Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Veterinary, Nursing, Pharmaceuticals, Physiotherapy and Naturopathy.
